Go4it! is a proven family engagement project offering a range of services that are delivered by a fun, friendly and professional team. Go4it! works within communities throughout Rhondda Cynon Taff helping families live more active and healthy lifestyles. 

The project seeks to identify and overcome the barriers that families face in participating in regular exercise and accessing local physical activity sessions.

Go4it! is able to help families in the following ways:

  • Help to pay for sports equipment and kit
  • Provide free taster sessions for families to try new activities in their locality
  • Provide free family cooking sessions
  • Provide in house coaching to give parents the confidence and knowledge to make lasting lifestyle changes.

By working with a number of partners, Go4it! is able to offer a range of services that can support varying needs and interests of families. The project funded by Sport Wales and Families First and has a management group with representatives from over 20 organisations committed to health improvement in RCT. It also works in partnership with our social enterprise, Grow Enterprise Wales, and  after-school family literacy programme, Ziggies.

Project successes to date include:

  • 416 families signed up to Go4it across Maerdy, Aberdare and Cae Fardre
  • 40 Families involved in  in house ‘sofa coaching’
  • 20 families working directly with a dietician
  • 234 families attended community cooking sessions to improve family cooking skills
  • 20% increase in take up of local activities providing go4it tasters
  • 100% increase in participants measuring increase in confidence, motivation, use of local facilities, physical activity levels and healthy eating
  • Progress tree self-assessment tool developed to capture lifestyle changes
  • Over 150 people signed up to our mobile download
  • Over 1500 people have ‘tried something new’ as a result of Go4it
  • Families have joined new clubs and shown a continued participation in physical activity sessions and sports
  • Go4it is currently working with over 40 partner organisations who share our key aims!
